Middlesex Golf Women’s Senior Friendly vs Suffolk at Muswell Hill GC

On 18 May, the Suffolk Senior Team travelled to London to play a friendly fixture against the Middlesex Senior Women Team at Muswell Hill GC. This was the second meeting between the two counties following last year’s inaugural match at Felixstowe.

Suffolk Team Manager Gillian Smith and her excellent team arrived in great spirits, and the day was filled with warmth, laughter and friendly competition from the very beginning. Seven singles matches were played, producing some highly competitive golf throughout the day.

On this occasion Middlesex emerged victorious, securing 5½ points overall. The exact match results were as follows:

Ann Fosker vs Lorely Paine – A/S

Gillian Smith vs Ines Hellmayr – lost 4/3

Trudy Read vs Christine Tyler – lost 5/3

Mariette Robbertse vs Corrine Moy – lost 3/2

Nicky McMahon vs Mandy Miller – lost 2/1

Karen Larbey vs Louise Tulip – won 3/2

Jude Hanner vs Liz Kynoch – lost 4/3

Special thanks go to Nicola and Guy for their efforts in welcoming the Suffolk ladies. Nicola was on hand throughout the day, while Guy was very much in everyone’s thoughts despite being unable to attend in person.

The Suffolk team were extremely complimentary about both the course and the food, and despite a dreadful weather forecast beforehand, we were fortunate to enjoy good conditions for golf.

Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day and another reminder of why county golf is held in such affection by all involved — competitive on the course, but always played in the very best spirit of friendship and camaraderie.
