Scottish Golf supports initiative to address lower back pain within golfers and keep more people on course for longer

Active X Backs, specialists in persistent lower back pain and sciatica, has a unique offer for Scotland’s golfers
This November, Scottish Golf is supporting an initiative from Active X Backs that will help golfers to have less back pain so that they can play more golf.
More than a third of golfers report lower back pain at any given time.  The personal suffering is significant.  And so is the potential financial cost to the industry as a whole, especially golf clubs.  Many golfers have to give up due to persistent or recurrent pain.

Clinical Director of Active X Backs, Gavin Routledge is a two-time author on lower back pain, and has partnered with Gary Nicol, who has coached over 30 European Tour Professionals and numerous Ryder Cup players, amassing 10 wins as a coach.
Alongside them in the fight against back pain is former Scotland and British and Irish Lions Rugby Captain Gavin Hastings OBE, who is spearheading the initiative to help Scottish golfers.
He commented:
Lower back pain plagued me towards the end of my rugby career.  But it has also threatened my golf, including in the recent past.  There’s so much golfers can do to reduce the risk.  That’s where Gavin and Gary are a dream combination.

Their initiative – Pain-Free and Confident – is the product of an in-depth consultation with more than 1000 Scottish golfers suffering lower back pain. A total of 57% stated they had multiple episodes spanning years, and 98% stated they were eager to find a long-term solution to their pain.
Routledge explained:
One of the big problems is that most sufferers don’t appreciate that relief and prevention are two very different processes. The things that help you get relief almost certainly won’t prevent future episodes.

The initiative launches this month, November 2024, helping golfers over the winter months to prepare for a better season next year.  Active X Backs will provide free monthly online workshops for Scottish golfers with persistent back pain and/or sciatica. In these workshops, golfers learn the underlying – often hidden – causes of their persistent pain, and build a plan towards a long-term solution.  Many sufferers spend hundreds or even thousands over years consulting a Physiotherapist, Chiropractor or Osteopath.More information can be found at the link here:  https://golf.painfreeandconfident.com/workshop
Active X Backs also offers an online Rapid Relief Plan, designed to deliver what it says for as little as £18.  Having achieved relief, their signature offering is the Pain-Free & Confident Program, coaching golfers to build a strong pain-free lower back they can have confidence in.
Scottish Golf will be launching a series of educational newsletters to members, via email, which has been created by Active X Backs to ensure they are more aware of preventative, curative and general maintenance measures for their back health.
