It was a scorching day at Etchinghill for our first Women’s Fun Event for 2026, and the play matched the weather with some ‘on fire’ shots!
Aimed at giving beginner women some on-course and competitive experience, these events are also a chance to meet others and find out where they play their golf.
After a welcome from coach Steve Mitchell and a warm-up on the range, our competitors were put into teams for a Texas Scramble competition on the Par 3 Academy course. A Scramble gives everyone the chance to hit, but is forgiving of our “not-so-good” shots when hopefully one of your team members gets one away!
Our teams received some on-course advice from Steve, who has a huge amount of experience in supporting women’s golf as our Kent Women’s 1st Team coach. Getting everyone to think about their chipping and putting in particular, his advice certainly helped some accurate putts, with one of our teams managing a birdie on the 3rd hole! He also covered a few key rules to help develop everyone’s ability to progress into more formal and competitive golf.
After the 9 holes, everyone enjoyed a meal and a drink before the big reveal of scores and the prize giving. Congratulations to the winning team of Melissa, Imogen, Vicky and Janine who came top with a very credible 1 over par 29.
Kent Golf supports women into golf through a number of coaching and competitive opportunities. Our next planned Fun Events are at Stonelees Golf Centre, Kent in June, and at Chart Hills in July, with more planned during the summer. Focussed on those newer to golf, our aim is to increase opportunities for women to have fun and build their golfing confidence.
A big thank you to Steve Mitchell and Etchinghill Golf Club for their hosting of a fantastic event.
