Lorna McClymont and Alexander Farmer among six winners praised for topping the rankings
Scottish Golf is delighted to confirm the winners of the prestigious Order of Merit titles across six categories for the 2024 season.
Each title recognises consistency of performance for individual golfers not only in designated point scoring events in Scotland, but also at key amateur tournaments staged by The R&A and the other three home nation governing bodies based in England, Wales and Ireland.
The winners are as follows:
Men: Alexander Farmer (Kilmacolm) – Farmer, who competed in nine of the 16 ranking events, won the Scottish Men’s Amateur Championship in July and also picked up points at the Tennant Cup, Cameron Corbett Vase and North of Scotland Open to edge out Nairn’s Calum Scott.
Final rankings
Women: Lorna McClymont (Milngavie) – For a third year in succession, McClymont took the title helped by her victory in the Scottish Women’s Amateur at Nairn Dunbar in May and a runner-up position at The R&A’s Women’s Amateur at Portmarnock. McClymont played in six of the nine ranking events and dominated the season to finish clear of Blairgowrie’s Megan Ashley.
Final rankings
Boys: Jamie McDonald (St Andrews New) – Boosted by a runner-up finish at the Scottish Boys’ Amateur at Scotscraig, McDonald also posted good results at the Scottish Boys’ Open at Irvine and The R&A Boys’ Amateur at Alwoodley and Moortown to take the title from Dominic McGlinchey representing The Renaissance Club.
Final rankings
Girls: Freya Russell (Royal Troon) – Russell’s showing at the Scottish Girls’ Amateur at Forfar (runner-up) and a top ten finish at the Scottish Girls’ Open at Powfoot helped her lead the rankings. Playing in five of the eight counting events, Russell took the title ahead of Scotland team-mate Rosie Maguire from Pollok.
Final rankings
Senior Men: Paul Moultrie (Royal Troon) – After finishing third in 2023, Moultrie’s performance in 10 of the 12 counting events saw him pull clear of runner-up Stewart Henderson. In particular, good showings at the Scottish Senior Men’s Open (T4) and The R&A Senior Amateur (T8) allowed the Ayrshireman to triumph.
Final rankings
Senior Women: Gillian Kyle (East Renfrewshire) – A tied sixth finish at the Scottish Senior Women’s Amateur at Old Course Ranfurly as well as a strong showing at the SVLGA Championship at Blairgowrie paved the way for Kyle’s victory. The Renfrewshire golfer finished ahead of Scotland team-mate Valerie Thomas in the table.
