Cape Cornwall wins Inter-Club Handicap Shield

2026 Inter-Club Handicap Shield Winners – Cape Cornwall

76 women representing 19 club took part in the Inter Club Handicap Shield in heatwave conditions at a fast-running St Austell Golf Club. The trophy was played by teams of four in a medal format with handicaps applied, with the aggregate of the lowest three scores determining the winners.

The early pace was set by Truro Golf Club with their best three rounds of 66+72+81 for a total of 219. This was matched a short time later by Cape Cornwall whose rounds of 66+73+80. With the teams tied the fourth card was added into the mix and it was Cape’s 81 that saw them win by a single stroke from Truro’s 82 score in their fourth card.

Individual event

Andrews Cup winner Sharon Sims

Individually, the Andrews Cup was up for grabs by the player with the lowest gross score of the day, and it was Sharon Sims from The Point that claimed victory with a 95, two-strokes clear of a three-way tie for second. The handicap prizes were equally closely fought with only countback separating Shipra Rao (Truro) from Lindsay Sawdon (Cape Cornwall) after both returned 6-under par scores of 66. Two others also bettered par on what was a difficult day for scoring, Pat Thom (Newquay) scored 69 and Carol Stevens (Looe) 70.
