108 women representing 18 clubs took part in the Baron Rose Bowl at a wet and windy Tehidy Park Golf Club. Playing a foursome medal, conditions made scoring difficult throughout the morning but didn’t prevent Kathy Cheeseman & Jo Tilbury (Bude) from returning an excellent one-under par 72 to take a two-stroke lead from three pairs – Kathy Callaghan & Paula Coleman (Carlyon Bay), Lyn Newby & Rachel-Lloyd Phillips (Tehidy Park) and Hilary Manley & Fran Polglase (Cape Cornwall).
Whilst the rain stayed away for most of the afternoon, the wind ensured conditions remained difficult with only Dee Peake & Linda Radley (St Mellion) able to break par with a three-under par 70 that lifted them to 5th place overall. Early pace-setter’s Cheeseman & Tilbury and Manley & Polglase slipped back during the afternoon while Callaghan & Coleman’s 78 saw then secured them 4th spot.
Rounds of 75 from Alison Higson & Beverley Oliver (Trevose) and Karen Whitby & Wendy Smith (China Fleet) saw them claim 2nd and 3rd places respectively but it was the 75 from the home pairing of Newby & Lloyd-Phillips that proved decisive taking them to a total of 149 (three-over par) and a one-stroke victory.

Pairs Results
1. Lyn Newby & Rachel Lloyd-Phillips (Tehidy Park) 74 + 75 = 149
2. Alison Higson & Beverley Oliver (Trevose) 75 + 75 = 150
3. Karen Whitby & Wendy Smith (China Fleet) 77 + 75 = 152
4. Kathy Callaghan & Paula Coleman (Carlyon Bay) 74 + 78 = 152
5. Dee Peake & Linda Radley (St Mellion) 86 + 70 = 156
6. Yvonne Newton & Julie Cleaton (China Fleet) 80 + 76 = 156
The team competition was also a very tight affair. After the morning round China Fleet (233) led Cape Cornwall by one-stroke with another three clubs within seven-shots. However, one-by-one the challengers fell away during the afternoon until China Fleet Captain Yvonne Newton, and her partner Julie Cleaton returned a 76 to clinch a one-stroke victory over Cape Cornwall.
