Devon Golf News: The Finals – Finally!

The Order of Merit and Champion of Champions Finals were held at Tavistock Golf Club on Sunday, 16th February 2025 after 2 earlier postponements due to weather.

55 players were signed up from 24 clubs across the county. The weather was good (for February) if you discount the 4-club wind that was making the temperature feel very raw….

The Order of Merit events are played across the season. The Women’s Order of Merit was all to play for. Going into the day, the leader of the field was Gudrun Thorsteinsdottir who is now at university in America. Susie Carr (Teignmouth) returned a creditable 82 to take the full 18 points on offer but playing partner Lauren McGinnis (Churston) shot 83 for 12 points to take her into first place with a total of 50 points for the season.

The Men’s Order of Merit was a done deal at this point with East Devon’s James Pickard having secured the trophy earlier in the season with 82 points. Thurlestone’s Dan Rosevear’s round of 77 was enough to secure him the second prize.

Junior OOMs are split into U12, U14, U16 and U18 age categories, the girls into U18 scratch and nett. All junior OOMs were pre-decided as each of the winners could not be beaten due to their convincing play throughout the season.
