Located at the start of the Scotland’s world-famous golf coast, and adjacent to one of the oldest courses in the world, Loretto offers a truly unique golfing opportunity. As Loretto possesses one of the finest indoor training facilities in Scotland, where our high-performance players can train all year round, we attract some the world’s most exciting young talent.
The Golf Academy offers three programmes that cater for various ages and ability levels. From ‘Get into Golf’ programmes for beginners to the Loretto Reds, a performance team for those aiming to secure lucrative scholarships to golfing universities around the world. This approach ensures that golf has become an established and celebrated culture within the school.
Being a Golf Academy student allows for flexibility in your daily academic calendar as golf is considered as another subject on your timetable. Depending on your age and specific programme you will have dedicated morning periods throughout the week to train and attend 1-on-1 coaching sessions. Upon arrival, all Academy students are allocated a membership at a nearby course. Loretto is proud to have partnerships with the Old Course Musselburgh, Longniddry Golf Club, Kings Acre Golf Course and the Renaissance Club, home of the Scottish Open.
In the winter periods, poor weather and lack of light do not stop Academy members from working on their game as the indoor Golf Academy provides the perfect setting for winter training. Boasting two Trackman TM4 Units, A SAM Putt lab centre and indoor chipping and putting green, the indoor facility is second to none. This, alongside the Loretto Golf team that includes professionals in club fitting, physical conditioning, technique coaching and sports psychology allows for a holistic experience.
All the golf programmes that Loretto offers are designed to have students playing as much golf as possible. This is in line with the coaching team’s belief that regardless of ability level, on course practice allows for the most improvement. This belief is exemplified through the internal and external tournaments that Loretto offers Academy members.
Internal events include the following:
– Two Matchplay events – The OLGS Cup and the Scot Cup.
– Three Stableford events – The Atkins Cup, Semple Cup and Mitchell Cup.
– Inter-house friendly team events.
– Away days at some of Scotland’s finest golf courses.
External events include the following:
– Five WAGR Ranked tournaments a year.
– SWIFT Foursomes national event.
– SWIFT WAGR Ranked tournaments.
– School vs School matches for all age groups.
– School Golf Tours to Desert Springs in Spain and the Doral Publics event in Florida.
The Loretto Golf Academy team is proud to have been the home of many successful golfers that now fly the flag high in various events, both on home soil and abroad. This is shown through the Old Lorettonian Golf Society’s three-peat at the Halford Hewitt and the number of golfers Loretto has sent to top Division 1 NCAA Colleges in America. The success of the alumni is a result of the ongoing success of the Golf programme with Loretto winning the Swift national title in 2023 alongside a 3rd place finish in the HMC National Foursomes finals. One of Loretto’s most decorated golfers is Oliver Mukherjee who won the Scottish Amateur Championship at the tender age of 16. Oliver and his brother Samuel will be joining Duke University in America on Scholarships in the Summer of 2025.
