Downfield Golf Club
Proud to have hosted The Open Final Qualifying in 1999 and 2007, Seniors Open Qualifying 2010 and 2016, 2014 Scottish Amateur Championship, 2019 Scottish PGA Championship and 2019 R&A Womens and Girls Home Internationals. In 2022 we hosted the R&A Girls and Boys Home Internationals and in 2023 we are hosting a Tartan Pro Tour event 12-14 July, an official feeder tour to the European Challenge Tour.
In 1972 Downfield Golf Club hosted the inaugural Scottish Open Championship sponsored by Sunbeam Electric. The championship and first prize of £2000 was won by Neil Coles after a sudden death play-off with Brian Huggett. Five time The Open champion Peter Thomson also played in the tournament and commented afterwards:
“Downfield is one of the finest inland courses I’ve played anywhere in the world; it’s a tough, demanding test of golf amidst some of the most picturesque scenery – you have to be very long and straight off the tee to succeed here!”
Downfield Golf Club, set in beautiful parkland in the city of Dundee, has been described by Paul Lawrie 1999 Open Champion (who final qualified that year at Downfield) as ‘one of the finest inland courses in Britain’.
